Why do we have two balance in Orbit Wallet? Before answering this question let us understand two types of balances what they are

Transit Balance:

Transit Balance is for serving the commuting needs of the users, this balance can be used for metro rides, bus rides, water ferries and more. Whenever you are travelling by any mode of public transportation, just Tap and pay with orbit card. Transit balance can be loaded at metro station, by visiting the ticket counter and asking the customer representative to recharge the amount.

Prepaid Balance:

Prepaid Balance is used for every-day transactions for online and offline payments e.g., online purchases from Amazon, Swiggy, Myntra, Zepto, for Offline payment at retail stores, coffee shops, restaurants, for fuel and parking payment etc.

You can add prepaid balance by using any UPI, net banking, debit card, credit cards etc., swipe or tap & pay at POS machines, and for online payments on the apps like Myntra, Swiggy, Zepto etc add the orbit card during checkout on the payment page.

How to use the card?

  • While travelling by metro, just Tap and pay at AFC(Automated Fare collection) machines
  • When doing offline payment, just tap and pay or swipe the card at POS machines
  • When doing online payment, add the card during the checkout on the payment page and make the payment.

Coming back to our first question, why do we have two balance?

The reason is simple, because it serves different purposes, prepaid balance is mostly for online transactions, which requires internet connectivity to make the payment. But the internet is not available at all time when travelling by metro or buses, to solve this problem, two balances are kept separate allowing users to travel without any hassle while doing the payments.
